(14 Dec 1905, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Sad, indeed, is our duty to chronicle the death of Thomas B. Hudson, who departed this life last Sunday morning at 1 o'clock, after an illness of five weeks of typhoid fever, which was supposed to have been contracted from bad water while coming in from his claim. It seems that he never grew better from the day he was first taken, despite the fact that he had the best of medical care and nursing. Drs. Watson and McComas twice performed the operation of injecting saline solution to make new blood. This had good effect prolonged his life each time. Twice he sank so low that nitro glycerine, for heart action, was injected, but the poisoned fever germs could not be overcome. Thomas B. Hudson had no enemies. He was liked by all who knew him and loved by all his friends. He had a fine farm and also occupied the position as an employee of Bonebrake's. He was 34 years old and was born near Ottwell, Indiana, where an aged mother mourns the loss of a beloved son. His remains were shipped back to Ottwell, being escorted to the train by the Odd Fellows, of which order he was an honored member, his membership being at Petersburg, Ind. Rest to his soul. Our community has lost an honored and honest man. (14 Dec 1905, Roger Mills Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): After a linger illness, covering a period of five weeks, Thomas B. Hudson, was forced to yield to the inevitable. He died Saturday night about one o'clock. During his sickness he had the attention of our most skillful physicians and the most careful nursing, but the ravages of typhoid fever wasted away his strength and his life. Mr. Hudson was a native of Indiana, was thirty-two years old and unmarried. He came to Oklahoma five years ago and for more than three years of that time was an employee of the Bonebrake Hardware Company in the capacity of harness maker. He was quiet, upright and unassuming, and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of his employers and of all with whom he came in contact in his social and business relations. Mr. Hudson was a Woodman and a Knight of Pythias. The members of these orders formed a joint procession and escorted his body to the depot. His remains were shipped to Otwell, Indiana, his former home, accompanied by Mr. J. L. Braden, a brother-in-law, who came to Elk City from Indiana in answer to a telegram a few days before Mr. Hudson's death. (www.usgenweb.com): Indiana, Pike County, Otwell, I.O.O.F.
