She was married to John Huff, November 19th, 1862, and they persued life's journey together in peace and happiness until January the 13th, 1916, when Brother Huff was translated to the better world. To this union seven children were born - two boys and five girls, of whom the two sons and three daughters remain to cherish her Christian memory, but two of the daughters "are fallen asleep." Those preceeding Sister Huff to the glory land were husband and two daughters, Nancy and Ellis. Those surviving her are two sons, J. R. Huff, residing at Galena, Kan., and W. T. Huff, Guymon, Okla.; and three daughters, Mrs. Rosey Perrim of Junction City, Kansas, Mrs. Denny Weiland, Lamar, Colo., and Mrs. Mary Stansberry, Elk City, Okla. Her grandchildren to whom she was fondly devoted, were sixteen in number, and great-grandchildren ten. Sister Huff professed faith in Christ as her savior at the age of 14 and united with the Missionary Baptist church, of which she was ever a faithful member. The last religious service she attended was the "daylight" Thanksgiving service at the Baptist church in Elk City two years ago; to and from which service she walked, though very infirm in body. What a fine tribute to her devotion to the Savior, and what a rebuke to many of us, who on Thanksgiving day, Sunday, prayer meeting night and very nearly all other times, consult our physical comfort and convenience rather than the imperative importance and urgent interest of Christ's holy cause. Her favorite songs were, "Nearer my God to Thee", and "Jesus Lover of my Soul." Her favorite scripture was the 14th chapter of John - the chapter that tells of the house of many mansions. Sister Huff's funeral was conducted by the writer at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Stansberry of this city, Friday afternoon, January 20th, 1917; and Mr. and Mrs. Stansberry, with whom "Grandma" had made her home for several years and the other children and relatives wish to extend sincere thanks to the neighbors and friends for their sympathy and kindly help during "Grandma's long affliction; and the people of the entire community extend sympathy and condolence to them, and wish for each the blessing of an entrance into the "home over there," completed life's journey and heard the whispered message, "The Master is come; He calleth for thee." W. W. Stogner, Pastor. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
