Almost from the time that the operation was performed it was felt that Mr. Hunter could not recover. Mr. Hunter was born June 29, 1902 at Erick. He came to Elk City with his parents when he was four years old. Receiving his lower grade training in the public schools here Mr. Hunter was graduated from the highschool in 1920. He attended Missouri University one term, one year at the University of Oklahoma and then went to Antioch college at Yellow Springs, Ohio, where he studied civil engineering. He returned to Elk City in 1924 to assist his father in the furniture business. Mr. Hunter was married to Miss Esther Gunter here May 21, 1925. An only son, Morgan Victor, is now about a year old. Surviving Mr. Hunter are his widow, Mrs. Hunter, his son, Morgan Victor, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hunter, a sister, Miss Audrey and three brothers, Byron, Jacque, and Cecil. If the aunt does come, the services will be held on Sunday afternoon. Gentry-Killough, funeral directors, will have charge of the arrangements. Feeling keenly the duties of citizenship, Mr. Hunter at all times was a capable and tireless worker for the best interests of the community. He was active in the affairs of the Broadway Methodist church, the Boy Scouts organization, the Rotary Club and the Elk City Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hunter was associated with his father, William Hunter, in the operation of a furniture business in this city. He was recognized as one of the leaders in the civic and business life of this community, and although a young man, took his place among these more experienced, assuming responsibility in a way seldom seen among young men. A true Rotarian, Mr. Hunter devoted much of his time to the work of the club here for the past three years, serving on most of the important committees. He was secretary-treasurer of the organization for this year and has served on the board of directors several times. He represented the club here at every district meeting since he was elected to membership. Becoming a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, South, in 1914, Mr. Hunter kept faith of that denomination and worked faithfully in all departments. He was a member of the board of stewards during the past five years and was superintendent of the Intermediate department for two years. The Epworth League and the Sunday school both have received his services. The Boy Scout work in Washita Valley Area was being greatly aided by Mr. Hunter's efforts. He was deputy commissioner of the area at the time of his death, serving next in order to the president. He was also court of honor chairman for the Elk City district. It was through his efficient leadership of the court that it attained the distinction of being the best in the area, scout leaders here say. He has been a director of the city organization since its formation three years ago. Mr. Hunter was a Mason, joining that order in 1922. Last year he served as chaplain for the order.
