L. Hunter, who moved to Elk City a few months ago, to receive medical treatment, having been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach, died yesterday at one o'clock. He was buried this afternoon at Merritt cemetery, the Masons in charge. (15 Feb 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): William Louis Hunter was born in the state of Georgia, August 10, 1856. Died February 7, 1923, aged 66 years, 5 months and 28 days. The remains were laid to rest in the Merritt cemetery. Funeral services being conducted by Rev. Hamilton. Masonic Brethren then taking charge. The deceased lived in his native state until a young man, moved to Yell county, Arkansas, where he was married to Lucendia Sulbiant. She lived ten years and died leaving six living children. He was later married to Mrs. Florence Gray who now survives him. The deceased is survived by a wife, eleven children, thirty-three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of friends. Three of his children are single, living with their mother in this city, namely, DeWitt, age 14 years, Raymond, age 11 and Cornelia, age 8 years and a daughter, Miss Laura Hunter who makes her home in Sallisaw, Okla., a daughter, Mrs. Ada White, of near Doxey, a daughter, Mrs. Mattie Walker of this city, a son Walter M. Hunter of near Elk City, two sons, Marion D. and W. Daily Hunter of Alexander and Carley, Arkansas, and a daughter, Mrs. Effie Rutherford of DeValls Bluff, Arkansas and a daughter, Mrs. Arvella Hunter Crossno of this city.
