(1 Jun 1916, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF W. F. JOBE W. F. Jobe was born in Ray county, Mo., May 14th, 1842, died in Elk City May 27th, aged 74 years and 13 days. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. McFarland, who told how hard Mr. Jobe had worked the year before for a memorial service for the old soldiers and through his efforts it had been accomplished. A year later, on memorial day, they met to pay the last tribute of respect to this old soldier. Rev. McFarland spoke in tenderest terms of his life and that he had also been such a faithful soldier of the cross, having been a member of the Christian church for many years. The body was laid to rest in Fairlawn cemetery beside the grave of his wife, who had preceeded him a little over a year ago. Mr. Jobe was a soldier in the civil war, for nearly three years, and was a member of the 33rd Mo. Infantry. The deceased was married to Sarah E. Tibble, September 19th, 1866, who died February 20th, 1876. One child was born to this union, Joseph A. Jobe of Enid, Okla., who with his son was present at the funeral services. On December 3rd, 1876, he married Mrs. Mary A. Barnett, who died March 24th, 1915. They had one daughter, Mrs. Dee Fields, of Elk City, with whom he had made his home. Mr. Jobe had a large circle of friends in our city who will remember his faithful christian example. He was ready to go having made preparations for his going away as if to go on a trip. He had many narrow escapes from death during his life, yet had lived a long and useful life. The sympathy of all are extended to the bereaved ones. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
