(11 Jan 1917, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. A. D. Jones and son Newlin, were called to Carter Thursday in response to a message announcing the serious illness of Mrs. J. Paul Jones, sister-in-law of Mrs. A. D. Jones. Mrs. Jones had been in poor health for some time and recently she was stricken with an attack of the gripp which later developed into pneumonia. Her death occurred Wednesday morning. The funeral will be held at Carter this afternoon. The deceased was forty-four years of age and leaves a husband and five children, the youngest being a boy two years of age. (12 Jan 1917, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): The members of the family of Dr. J. Paul Jones, of Carter, were thrown into a deep sorrow Wednesday morning when the wife and mother, Mrs. Jones, died at 10 o'clock. Both Dr. Jones and his wife had been down for several days with pneumonia, and although it was known that they were both real sick yet the people of Carter were not prepared to believe that the condition of either of them could be so serious as to result in death. Only last week Mrs. Jones mother, Grandma Case, died, and it is very likely that this had a tendency to cause the condition of Mrs. Jones to grow worse. The remains will be laid to rest this afternoon Thursday in the Carter cemetery. It is indeed sad to see a mother cut off in the prime of life and leave young children behind to be raised into manhood and womanhood without the guiding hand of a mother's love. She leaves a husband and five children, three boys and two girls. As this is written, Dr. Jones is said to be resting some better though his condition is still considered serious. We extend to the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy in their extreme sorrow. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
