All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* JONES, ALLEN (8 Apr 1920, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF ALLEN JONES Allen Jones died last Friday, April 2nd, at the home of his son, Roy Jones, in this city, after an illness of many weeks. Funeral services were held at the residence here on Sunday, April 4th, at 1:30 p.m., after which the body was shipped to Mobeetie, Texas, for interment. H. A. Maloy of Grubitz & Son accompanying the body. W. O. Hocker, of the Farmer's State Bank went to Mobeetie and made all arrangements for the funeral there. On Monday several cars of friends left here to be in attendance at the services at Mobeetie, which were held that afternoon, and where a large crowd was in attendance, as Mr. Jones was one of the oldest settlers here having moved to Mobeetie in 1881. His wife died there in 1884. In 1886 he moved to Silver City, New Mexico where he lived until 1889. He filed on a claim on Sandstone in 1892, and which was his home until the time of his death. He was buried by the side of his wife at Mobeetie. Roy Jones of this city, was the only child of this union. Mr. Jones was 77 years of age. The News Democrat expresses its sympathy and the sympathy of the host of friends to the bereaved son and other relatives. (9 Apr 1920, Friday, Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): ALLEN JONES After an illness of several weeks, Mr. Allen Jones passed away Saturday, April 3 (sic), at the home of his son, Roy Jones, on North Jefferson. Mr. Jones was born in White county, Ark., December 2, 1842, and lived for a number of years in Western Oklahoma. He was well known to the old residents of this section, who knew him as "Uncle Al." Funeral services were held at the residence Sunday afternoon by Rev. C. Bowles.
