A. Kennedy, Elk city dentist, died Thursday, June 21, at Alamagordo, New Mexico, where he had gone in the hope that his health might be benefitted. In 1921 Dr. Kennedy suffered an attack of pneumonia from which he never fully recovered. A complete breakdown in health occurred in March of this year and he was taken to Alamagordo. The climate, however, failed to produce the hoped-for result. William Arthur Kennedy was born July 19, 1898, in Davis, Oklahoma, where he was reared, and graduated from high school in 1916. After attending St. Louis University and graduating from the school of dentistry he engaged in the practice of his profession in Davis and later in Alamagordo, remaining at the latter place until 1924, when he came to Elk City and opened an office. He was married to Miss Myrtle Warnock of Alamagordo in 1922. Two children survive. He has been a member of the Christian church since he was thirteen years of age and was a respected citizen, a valued friend and a considerate husband and father. He was ever ready to do his part for the advancement of the town of his choice and his death caused a feeling of sorrow over the city. The funeral was held at the First Christian Church of Davis, Oklahoma, Rev. Horn, pastor of the Christian church of Sulpus, officiating and he was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery. He is survived by his wife, his parents, five brothers, two sisters. Other relatives present at the funeral were his grandmother, Mrs. S. E. Kennedy of Elk City, and a cousin, O. C. Roark of Wichita Falls, Texas. The many beautiful floral offerings attested the esteem in which he was held, and a large number of schoolmates and friends who attended the funeral spoke more than words the friendship felt for him. Mr. Kennedy was a member of the Woodmen of the World, the Knights of Pythias, the Cordell Kiwanis Club, and the American Legion. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their hour of sorrow. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
