King, one of the early settlers of this part of the country, died at the home of his son Rufe King, at Shawnee on Monday and his remains were shipped to Carter for burial on Tuesday. Mr. King moved here with his family while this country was open for settlement and filed on a quarter section southeast of Carter. He lived there for many years where he has a host of friends among his old neighbors. Mr. King, who was getting up in years, has been in poor health for some time and was recently right sick at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dock Barr. He left her place to spend a while with his son and family at Shawnee about a month ago, thinking a change might be a benefit to him, but his condition continued to grow worse. Mr. King has two daughters living here, Mrs. Dock Barr and Mrs. John Anderton, and two other daughters, and several sons, living in different parts of the country, and a large number of grandchildren, who are made sad by his passing away. The Masonic Lodge of Carter had charge of the funeral services and the remains were laid to rest in the Poarch cemetery on Wednesday by the side of those of his wife and daughter who preceeeded him several years ago. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
