Word was received here last week of the death on October 6th of Roy Kline, the thirteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kline, of Dodge City, Kans., but formerly of Elk City. Roy was born in Elk City and was thirteen years old just a month before he died. The funeral was held in the Methodist Church of Dodge City, Rev. C. D. Whitman officiating. The special songs rendered being "Asleep In Jesus," "At Home At Last," "Peace To Thee." The school children attended the funeral in a body. The floral tributes were profuse and beautiful nearly fifty different ones being sent by lodges, school, church, Sunday School, relatives and friends. Four of his boy friends were pall bearers: Lyle Glenn, Harlan Woolwine, Warren Whitwam and Emmet Barker. The body was laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. The following is from the Dodge City paper: "Roy was a pupil in the seventh grade of the local junior high school and was a favorite with the members of his class and all who knew him. His brilliance in class was remarkable and his death has undoubtedly removed from the school one of its most promising students. He is survived by his parents, two sisters and three brothers in the immediate family. He moved here with his parents several years ago when his father became manager of the Swift & Co. produce station." The many friends from Elk City wish to tender their deepest sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Kline in their bereavement. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
