(14 Apr 1927, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Theodore A. Lamm died at his home in Canute Sunday, April 1, after a long and successful life. Mr. Lamm came to Oklahoma in the beginning, staked a homestead in the vicinity of Canute and has since made this his home. He had the proud distinction of having been granted the first charter for a bank in Oklahoma - the Canute State Bank - which has for some years been in charge of his sons. He was born in Buffalo, New York, in June, 1856, being at the time of his death, 81 years, 9 months and 18 days old. Mr. Lamm and wife were the parents of seven children, one of which died in infancy. Those surviving are Mrs. Clinton Cole and Mrs. Chas. Elliott of Oklahoma City, two daughters, Celia and Viola, both of whom are married; Marie, who lives with her parents, and two sons, Hugo and Fred, who conduct the bank at Canute. A son died in training camp during the World War. Mr. Lamm during his long residence in the Canute community was active in the affairs of the community and was known as one of the upright, substantial citizens; a builder and a doer; a man who in laying down the burdens of the world is prepared to hear those comforting words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter now into the joys of thy Lord." His life was one of service, of effort, and his living a benefit to his state and nation. The great throng which gathered to pay their last respects to his memory attested the love and esteem in which he was held, and the floral tributes mute messengers of love from grief-stricken friends. These were beautiful and in abundance. Funeral services were held from the Holy Family Church in Canute, the rites being conducted by Rev. Father Schaffer, burial being in the Holy Family cemetery. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
