(12 Jul 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF J. M. LEDBETTER. J. M. Ledbetter was born November 6th, 1826 (sic), and died July 6, 1923, being 56 years and 9 months old. He leaves a wife, four sons, a daughter and many friends to mourn his departure. He was a faithful husband, a devoted father and a consecrated Christian. He was a type of citizen any community might be proud to own. He will be remembered as one of the pioneers and boosters of Pleasant Valley, just east of Elk City. We feel that our loss is Heavens gain and the wonderful life he lived will still lead others to higher things. Reverend Hamilton of the Baptist Church at Elk City spoke words of consolation which can never be forgotten by the bereaved ones. The pall bearers were from the Odd Fellow Lodge at Elk City of which he was a member. Interrment (sic) in charge of Grubitz and Son, was made at Fairlawn cemetery Saturday July 7th, 1923. A Friend. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
