All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* LEWIS, FEMALE (26 Apr 1928, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): County Commissioner, J. F. Lewis and Mrs. Lewis returned last Thursday evening from Driggs, Arkansas, where they went in answer to a message that Mr. Lewis' mother was very low and could not live. Mrs. Lewis passed away Saturday, April 14th, at the age of 79 years. She had been an invalid for the past four years, being confined to her bed the greater part of the time with the dread malady tuberculosis. Mrs. Lewis was the mother of seven children, three of whom preceded her to the great beyond. The four surviving children, two girls and two boys, of which our Jim is the eldest, were at her bedside when the end came. Her husband survives her and as soon as he arranges his affairs will come to Elk City to make his home with his eldest son. Mrs. Lewis was splendid Christian woman, having united with the Methodist church when a child and thruout her long life lived according to the teachings of Christ. The funeral was held at Paint Rock cemetery, where interment was made, Rev. Patty, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating.
