O. Lindley Dead. Miss Nellie Martin received a letter from Miss Lois Lindsey, of Carthage, Mo., stating a telegram had been received by them that Mrs. J. O. Lindley, of Florida, had died. Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey (sic) were old settlers in Elk City, having charge of the Sugar Bowl at this place before the present owners took charge. She was a most estimable lady and her many acquaintances here will regret to hear of her death. (18 Jan 1917, Thursday, Southwest News & Leader, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. J. O. LINDLEY DIED ON WEDNESDAY AT LEESBURG, FLA. Former Well Known Resident of This City Answers Final Call. Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Robinson have received announcement of the death of Mrs. Nettie Lindley, which occurred at Leesburg, Fla., on Wednesday of last week. The remains were laid to rest there on last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Lindley were among the first resident of Elk City, being members of the tent colony which first settled here. For many years they conducted the Sugar Bowl, disposing of their interests here about five years ago. The family had many friends in this section who will learn with regret of the death of Mrs. Lindley. She was a splendid woman, and numbered her friends here by those who knew her.
