LITTRELL. Mrs. J. C. Littrell died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Kent, on last Friday, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Littrell came here a few weeks ago from her home in Sayre, hoping that the change would do her good. Everything possible was done to alleviate her suffering, and her children gave her every attention, but she passed away, leaving behind the sweet memory of a precious life, a death mother and faithful wife. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon, at the home of her daughter, Eld. Ingold having service in charge, and giving much hope and consolation to the bereaved ones. The interment was made at Fairlawn cemetery. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their great sorrow. (14 Sep 1916, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY OF MRS. J. C. LITTRELL Sarah Olivia Givens, was born November 13, 1856, in McDonald County, Ill., moved to Carroll Co., Mo., in 1865, obeyed the gospel in 1874, was married to J. C. Littrell in 1876 and died in Elk City, Okla., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jerry Kent. The body was laid to rest in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Elk City, the funeral services being conducted by the writer, such being the request of Sister Littrell before her spirit went to God. Those who knew her most intimately, in one voice declare her to have been a genuine type of Christian womanhood. Surely no higher compliment could be paid to her life nor tribute to her memory. There is a husband and four children, and eight brothers and sisters to mourn her loss. Her children are Mrs. R. A. Young, Wheeler, Texas; Earl Littrell, Sayre; Guy Littrell and Mrs. J. C. Kent, Elk City. The belief in the immortality of the soul and the hope of eternal bliss is the fairest oasis in the desert of life. Seek not, Oh, atheistic friend, to rob us of this sweet hope, without which life must be little more than a baren existence. To meet again some far off country where the trials and heartaches of this life are forgotten is perhaps the dearest wish of the soul. Yours in Christ, O. E. Endfield. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
