(20 Mar 1924, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): IN MEMORIAM Mrs. Estal H. Lyda. Mrs. Clara Margaret Nagle passed away at the home of brother-in-law Marshall Phillips, in Elk City, on March 12th, 1924, at twenty-seven years of age. She was born in Hanover, Kan., January 17, 1897, and moved to Oklahoma with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. Nagle, in 1902, where they lived on a farm near Elk City. On December 25, 1913, she was married to Estel H. Lyda. To this union four children were born, one son Elmer, at about one year of age died six years ago. Three children are left to mourn the loss of a mother, Margaret, nine years old, Ilene, five years old and Roberta, two years of age. She was a very devoted mother and loved her children with a true mother's affection. No task was too hard for her to undertake, no sacrifice too great for her to make for them. During her months of intense suffering she said she was glad to suffer if only she could be with her children. She took sick last October, suffering from cancer of the stomach and through the long weary months was so patient. She had a loving disposition and was so gentle and kind and her cheerfulness during all through her affliction was wonderful. The smile she had for all will be sadly missed but her sweet life will live on in the memory of her loved ones and friends. She became a christian when a small child and ever since has lived a beautiful christian character. Before passing away she bade her loved ones goodby telling them she was going to meet her mother, brother and son who had preceded her. Besides her husband and children, she leaves her father N. Nagle, stepmother, two brothers, Oscar Nagle of Edler, Colo., and Hugo Nagle of near Elk City; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Phillips and Mrs. Ned Warman of Edler, Colo., to mourn her loss. Her friends were many and they will miss her. At one time she was the correspondent to the News Democrat from "Route Three" and her letters from that neighborhood were very much appreciated. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church last Thursday afternoon, conducted by C. H. Lemmox, pastor of the church. The songs by choir were "Abide With Me," "Jesus Lover of My Soul." Interment was made in Fairlawn by the side of the little son who left them six years ago. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
