All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* MADDEN, DANIEL (6 May 1915, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF DANIEL MADDEN Thursday morning, April 22nd, the friends and relatives of Daniel Madden were shocked to hear the sad message, over the phone, that he was dead. He had been to Elk City the day before his death and was apparently in good health and his friends remarked that he was as happy as usual, but such is the uncertainty of life. He ate breakfast and did his morning work and not until his chores were done, did he remark that he did not feel well. Medical aid was summoned, but before they arrived he was dead. Heart failure was the cause of death. Daniel Madden was born in Canada February 18, 1852. Died at his residence north of Elk City, April 22, 1915. Age 63 years 2 months and 6 days. He came to Iowa, with his parents when a boy and lived there until 15 yrs. ago when he moved on his farm north of Elk City. He was a good neighbor, a kind husband and there was no more hospitable couple in Oklahoma, than Mr. and Mrs. Madden. Every one was welcome and they have many friends in Elk City who always looked forward to a pleasant visit with them. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, one brother, Mike Madden of Crawford Co., Iowa, four sisters, Mrs. McLemee of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Nell Devotney, of Wall Lake, Iowa, Mrs. D. D. May of St. Joe, Mo., Mrs. Fremmel of Veil, Iowa. He was a member of the Catholic Church and after the funeral services was laid to rest in the catholic cemetery of Elk City, Okla. The esteem in which he and his estimable wife, were held was shown by the large concourse of friends that followed him to the last resting place. He had a large funeral and with sadness his many friends bade farwell (sic) to his earthly remains.
