Interment will follow under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City. Dortha Mahl went to be with her Lord Jesus on Wednesday, March 13, 2002. Dortha was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on April 26, 1918 to Winston and Grace Shelton. She graduated Salutatorian from Merritt High School in 1934. Dortha met and fell in love with Joseph Michael Mahl and the two were married on June 2, 1938. On Christmas Day 1939, Joe and Dortha welcomed into the world their first child, Patricia Ann. Then ten years later, Mike, a long awaited son arrived. The two raised their family in Elk City and ran business that included a gas station and a construction roofing company. Five grandchildren and one great grandchild came into her life through the next several years. They were jewels to her, truly her pride and joy! Dortha had a love and zest for life. She loved to travel, dancing and crossword puzzles, but her true love and passion in life was her family. She had an unconditional love for all of them. She lived her life unselfishly so she could give to her family. Her compassion for the sick and the poor will always be remembered. Dortha will be blessed in heaven for her love and generosity. She will be truly missed here on earth by her parents, Grace and Winston, her sister, Betty Gillis, her husband, Joe Mahl, two granddaughters, Sandy Jean Abercrombie and Shonda Suzuette Mahl. She is survived by one daughter, Pat Abercrombie of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one son, Mike Mahl and daughter in law, Glenna Mahl of Elk City, Oklahoma; one brother, Arba Shelton of Elk City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Mickey Abercrombie of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kelli Beeson of Lafayette, Colorado, Shenna Mahl of Elk City, Oklahoma and one great grandchild, Cricket Beeson of Colorado, as well as many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
