All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* MARSHALL, JOHN ALLEN (29 Apr 1926, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): John Allen Marshall was born in State of Alabama May 27, 1854, and departed this life April 26, 1926, at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 29 days. He came from Alabama to Oakwood, Texas, when a young man. He was soon afterward married to Henriette Lindsey, to this union were born six children, three of whom died in infancy. Those surviving are, Mrs. Mary Looney and J. H. Marshall of Groom, Texas, and Frank Marshall of Duke, Okla. His wife died and he later married Mrs. Louisa Winn, to this union were born 6 children, one of these died when three years of age. Those surviving are Mrs. J. R. Shafer and J. H. Marshal (J. F. )of Elk City, Mrs. R. B. McCain and Mrs. Hubert Moore of Hollis, Okla., and Curtis Marshall of Dallas, Texas. His second wife died Oct. 18, 1904. He reared his children alone in the absence of a mother, he filled the place of both father and mother as best he could. He came to Oklahoma October 25, 1924, and was married to Mrs. Laura Hacker of Hollis, Okla. He joined the M. E. Church soon after his first marriage and continued in that faith until his death. He was blessed with three good christian wives whom he never failed to praise highly. He came to Elk City last November expecting to bring his wife here and make this their home. He was taken ill about two weeks ago, which terminated in his death at the Music Hospital. His wife and all of his children were at his bedside during his recent illness. All that medical science and loving hands could do was done but to no avail. Funeral services were held Tuesday April 27, 1926, at 10 a.m. from the Presbyterian church, Rev. Tracy officiating. Burial was made in the West Fairlawn cemetery with the Masonic Lodge in charge. Those out of town attending the funeral were, Earl Hacker of Purcell, Okla., Mrs. O. K. Griggs of Mangum and Mrs. Watson. CARD OF THANKS We take this method of expressing our thanks and appreciation to our friends, neighbors, the Masonic Order, Rev.
