Mrs. Harriett Maxwell, 81, died this morning at 11:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Aker, 1003 South Oliver street. Mrs. Maxwell had suffered poor health for the past 30 years. Her condition was aggravated two weeks ago when she sustained a broken limb when she fell out of bed. This affliction, coupled with a weakened condition, it thought to have hastened her death. The aged woman was a pioneer in the Indian territory, living near Healdton and Sulphur. She came to Oklahoma from Texas, having come to the latter state with her husband, T. A. Maxwell from her native state, Tennessee. She was born at Nashville in 1849 and was reared there. She was married to Mr. Maxwell in 1870. Mr. Maxwell has been dead 20 years. Two sons, A. C. and Henry Maxwell also preceeded Mrs. Maxwell in death. Besides the daughter of this city, five other children survive Mrs. Maxwell. They are S. L. Maxwell, of Wellington, Tex.; Jack Maxwell of Ardmore; Jim Maxwell of Oklahoma City; Mrs. James Nunley of Marlow; and Mrs. C. D. Henry of Sulphur. All the children are here to attend the funeral. Funeral services will be held Sunday morning at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Aker. Rev. Walter Crane will conduct the final rites. Interment will be made in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Killough-Hullum, funeral directors, are in charge of arrangements. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
