FREIDMAN (10 Oct 1918, Elk City News-Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): J. FREID MAYER IS DEAD J. Freidman Mayer died Tuesday evening at eight o'clock at San Diego, California. He is the eldest son of D. A. Mayer, former editor of the News-Democrat and the announcement of his death among his many friends and acquaintances here caused great sadness. His sister Miss Julia Mayer, came here yesterday from Camargo, where she is teaching. She was on her way to Oklahoma City where the funeral will be held. The body will reach there on Sunday morning. Mr. Mayer and family lived in Calexico, Calif., and were returning home in a car from a months vacation. When reaching San Diego, he became sick. Full particulars have not been received at this writing, but his death is supposed to have been caused by influenza. Mrs. Mayer was formerly Miss Vera Sherwood. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Mayer live in Orange Texas. Mrs. Mayer has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Martha Helen Ellis in Nebraska. A son, Frank, and daughter, Mrs. J. K. Wilson, live in Chicago, and all are expected to be in Oklahoma City Sunday. Freid lived here for many years and was well known by many of our citizens, who were grieved to learn of his death and extend to the bereaved wife and little son their deepest sympathy, as well as to the rest of the family, who for many years was one of the leading families in the business and social life of our town.
