William Dinwiddle Mayer, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Mayer, was born in Sturgeon, Mo., Feb 27, 1890, and died in Elk City last Saturday afternoon, Oct. 17, 1908. The funeral sermon was preached at the family residence on Broadway, Sunday afternoon at 2:30, by Rev. Randle to a large concourse of people and sympathizing friends. A very large procession followed him to the City Cemetery where he was buried. Will would soon have been nineteen years old. He was affectionate and tender in the home, with especial reverence and love for his mother. So sad that he should be taken away just in the prime of his young manhood when there was so much to inspire the noblest and best efforts of father, mother and himself in laying the foundation of true manhood. The sympathies of the city are with the bereaved family. (22 Oct 1908, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): THE REEPER CAME AGAIN For the second time within a few days death visited the home of D. A. Mayer, publisher of the News. this time a son, 18 years of age, he was buried Sunday in Elk. He was a fine lad, no better boy in Oklahoma. Our sympathies. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
