(22 Feb 1911, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MCCONKEY. John F. McConkey, an old and highly respected citizen, died at his home nine miles northwest of Elk City early Monday morning of heart failure. Mr. McConkey had not been feeling well for some time but his condition was in no way considered serious. Monday morning he complained more than usual and one of the family got up to make a fire about 4:30. Mr. McConkey got up and started across the floor and fell, he only lived a few minutes. He leaves a wife and five sons, the oldest, Prof. McConkey, is teaching in the Grandview school. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday, and the body was buried in the Grandview cemetery. (23 Feb 1911, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): McCONKEY - John F. McConkey dropped dead early Monday morning at his home 12 miles northwest of this city from heart failure.
