McCOWN Mrs. Maud McCown, wife of G. W. McCown, died Friday morning June 10th, at five o'clock, after an illness of two years. She went to Mineral Wells, Texas, several times in the hopes of regaining her health. She was brought to the hospital three weeks ago and underwent an operation. She knew her condition was serious and prayed a beautiful prayer for her children, and said she was ready to go. She was given every care by Dr. Tisdal, nurses and children until the end. Mrs. McCowan was forty-seven years of age and had been a member of the Baptist church since a young girl. Mr. and Mrs. McCown were married thirty-three years ago. Thirteen children were born to them, all living but one of the twins, Alva McCown. She is survived by her husband, G. W. McCown, and the following children: A. A., Milton, Bob, A. B., George, Leonard, Clarence, Solen, Willie and two little girls, Loma and Clara. Funeral services were held at Canute, Rev. E. D. Hamilton, officiating. The many friends join the News-Democrat in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones. (23 Jun 1921, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY Mrs. Maude McCowan (nee Dawson) was born February 14, 1874, and died June 10, 1921, aged 47 years, three months and twenty-seven days. Was married to Geo. McCown, September 1888. To this union was born thirteen children. She was converted and joined the Baptist church in early life, and as much as was possible she attended to her Lord's service. She was one of the Lord's own, who while in the vissitudes of life's struggles she had the patience of one who seemed to realize that her Lord was with her day by day, and when the hour came that she must go home to the city of her God, to the land where the rainbow does not fade, nor where sorrow, tears and separations come, she commended her noble spirit to Him who gave it. And now to the twelve children, husband, her brothers and sisters and kindred, she's gone, but not forgotten. A weary pilgrim has finished her course, and from yonder celestial city, if we could hear, she is exclaiming, "Behold the half was never told me." One who loved her. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
