(3 Jan 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): PIONEER SETTLER DIES NEAR ELK CITY FRIDAY J. W. McDonald, pioneer settler in Beckham county, died suddenly at his home near Elk City Friday evening, December 28. Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 31, at the Broadway Methodist Church with Rev. E. C. Webb officiating. Interment was held in the Pixlee Cemetery (Custer County. Mr. McDonald was 76 years old at the time of his death. He came to Elk City in 1898 from Richmond, Mo., and homesteaded within a mile of his present farm. He has lived in this vicinity for thirty years. Mr. McDonald was a charter member of the Hager Methodist church at the time of its organization and transferred his membership to the Broadway Methodist church in Elk City in 1921. He was in apparent good health when he was stricken with paralysis Friday and died shortly afterward. Mr. McDonald was well known and esteemed in this community and a large circle of friends and old settlers mourn his death. He is survived by his wife and two children, Mrs. Ben Brookes and Pryor McDonald, of Elk City. Gentry-Killough, funeral directors, were in charge of the arrangements. John N. McDonald John N. (sic) McDonald died at his home three miles east of Elk City December 28, 1928. Funeral services were held at the home with Rev. E. C. Webb officiating. Mr. McDonald was born May 30, 1852, and died at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 28 days.
