J. McGaugh, died this morning at his home of pneumonia. His wife is also very sick. A babe was born to them Tuesday, but the little one only lived four hours. Several other members of the McGaugh family are quite ill. Eugene McGaugh would have been twenty-seven years old the 25th of November. He has been working for the Farmer's Milling Co. Deceased was a brother of Calvin McGaugh, who is now in the Service and on his way to France. (24 Oct 1918, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): HUSBAND AND WIFE DIE THE SAME DAY Mrs. Lucy Blanche McGaugh died last Thursday night at nine o'clock. Her husband, Eugene McGaugh died that morning at one o'clock. The bodies of both husband and wife were taken to the undertaking parlors of Grubitz & Son and embalmed, waiting for the members of the McGaugh family to recover. With several married children and their families having arrived in the home, and most of them sick - fourteen at one time - they have had a serious time. M. F. Moorman and M. E. Killion of Sayre assisted in caring for the sick. Mr. Moorman was taken sick the last of the week. Miss Bernice McGaugh had a relapse and has been very low, and for a time it was thought she could not recover. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McGaugh were married about four years ago, and leave a bright baby girl, Maurine, two and a half years of age. Mrs. McGaugh was the daughter of W. D. and A. E. Moorman of Sayre. She was twenty years old last June. Her parents, three brothers and three sisters survive. In their hour of sadness and sorrow the relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of everyone, as all are touched by the double bereavement, the taking of both parents from their babe and loved ones within such a short time. The double funeral was held Wednesday morning at Delhi. Mr. McGaugh had joined the M.W.A. lodge about a month before he died, and quite a number of the fraternity accompanied the remains of their deceased Neighbor to its last resting place. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
