(12 Feb 1918, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): IN MEMORY MRS. W. H. McKEAN Born April 27, 1852 Died February 10, 1918. Miss Jennie McBurney was born at Mercer, Pennsylvania, April 27th, 1852, where she lived until she was fifteen years of age, when her parents moved to Iowa, where she was united in marriage to W. H. McKean on November 26th, 1873. To this union was born four children, three of whom survive: Mrs. Mabel Biglow, of St. Hiliare, Minn., C. W. McKean, Forgan, Okla., and Mrs. Ralph Lauderdale, Elk City, Okla. There are three grandsons and a number of relatives to mourn her death. Mrs. McKean was converted to Christ at the age of fourteen years and united with the Presbyterian Church, and had always been an active member and consecrated Christian. Mr. McKean and family moved to Oklahoma and located at Elk City, May 5, 1905, where they have resided ever since, and where she has made many friends, who testify that to know her was to appreciate her worth that they never met a more spiritual person, and that she never lost an opportunity to speak a word for Christ. She was a great sufferer for years, but was ever patient through her sickness. Her friends and neighbors said a visit with her was always an inspiration, and they could not be with her without being helped. She knew so many passages of the bible and when unable to read, she said she was glad she had the word of God in her heart and mind, for it was a great comfort to her to think of all the precious promises, and she relied implicity on them. She was ever willing and ready to help those about her who were in trouble, and friends had often called, and found her fixing things for those in need. Truly the world was made better by her having lived in it. Her life was one her loved ones might adopt, her friends might follow with consistency and strangers might with profit emulate. She leaves a rich legacy for her children in her pure, upright life. The funeral services held at the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday afternoon, February 12th, were attended by a large assembly, and Rev. Posey made a very appropriate address, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in the Fairlawn cemetery. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
