(20 Aug 1925, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): WM. H. McKEAN DIED IN KANSAS CITY. Wm. H. McKean was born in Mercer County, Pa., September 6th, 1845 and lived there until early manhood. Then moving to Iowa, where he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie F. McBurney, Nov. 26th, 1873, having been childhood sweethearts. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive. His wife departed this life February 10th, 1918, at the age of 65 years. Mr. McKean was converted to Christ in early manhood, united with the Presbyterian Church and was an active member and devout Christian. In May 1905, Mr. McKean moved to Elk City, where he was employed by M. Z. King, afterward moving to Kansas City, Mo., at the time of his wife's death, where he made his home with a daughter until his death. Although his death was quite unexpected he had been a semi-invalid and patient sufferer for the past three years. Mr. McKean reached the age of 79 years, 11 months and 9 days, having departed this life August 15, 1925. Funeral services were held in the First Presbyterian Church, Elk City, Okla., at 3:30 P.M. August 18 conducted by Rev. Oscar L. Adams, using for a text: Acts 13-36 "David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep." Interment was made in the Fairlawn cemetery by the side of his wife. He leaves to mourn his loss, two daughters, Mrs. Mable Bigelow of Gillmore City, Iowa, Mrs. Marie Hand of Kansas City, Mo. One son, C. W. McKean of Wichita, Kansas. Four grandchildren, Gordon McKean, Leslie and Donivan Bigelow and Geraldine Hand. Numerous relatives and a host of friends. McKean, an old citizen of Elk City, died at Kansas City, Missouri, last Sunday, August 16 (sic), at the age of seventy-nine years. He had made his home with his daughters there the past three years, since leaving Elk City. His health had been failing the past few years and he was recently operated on. The body was shipped to Grubitz and Son, funeral directors of this city, last Tuesday. Services were held at Fairlawn by Rev. Tracy, Tuesday, at 3:30 p.m. Mr. McKean had a number of old friends here and had lived here for many years. His wife was buried at Fairlawn years ago. His daughters accompanied his body here.
