His stay here being 13 years, 11 months and 11 days. Bernice was one of our brightest and most loved school boys. He finished the eighth grade the past year at Waco and would have gone to Canute this term had he not been stricken with typhoid fever. The last three weeks of his illness he lay in a semi-conscious state, seeming to realize but little of the daily happenings. The last two weeks were spent in the hospital where all that was possible was done to relieve his suffering but God saw fit to call him home. Bernice was the oldest of three children and leaves to mourn him a father, mother, brother, Howard, and sister, Hazel, a grandmother, two grandfathers, and a number of uncles and aunts and cousins. Owing to the sickness in the home funeral services were conducted in the Grubitz chapel where a large crowd of neighbors and friends were gathered to pay all due respects. Bros. Risinger and Hill conducted the services. Pall bearers were six of his boy friends: David and Francis Jones, Wesley and Edward White, William Hays and Ralph Standbury. Burial was in Fairlawn cemetery. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
