(16 Jun 1910, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Ella McVeigh, 80 years old, passed from this world of sorrow and trials to the better world above. Mrs. McVeigh was born in Ireland in 1830, but moved to this country when a little girl. She was one of the women that the poet spoke of when he said: "God could not be everywhere, so he created mother." She leaves six children to mourn her loss: Ed. McVeigh, Tom McVeigh and Mrs. T. J. McAlpin of Elk City; Jim McVeigh of Davenport, Iowa, Mike McVeigh of Omaha, Neb., and Mary McAndrews of Denison, Iowa, all of whom were here at the time of her death. She was sick about eight weeks. All of the children except Tom, accompanied the corpse to Veil (sic), Iowa, where it will be interred by the side of her husband who died some ten years ago. Father Herenthals conducted the services. Although Mrs. McVeigh was getting quite aged, she had always enjoyed good health. She will be greatly missed by all who know her. The sympathy of the entire city is with the children and relatives in this their sad hour of affliction. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
