M. Corn. He was a victim of typhoid fever, having been ill only a few days, and the news of his death came as a great shock to his relatives here. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Meeker, of Hastings, Oklahoma, and a nephew of W. E. Corn, of this city, whom he had lived with and attended high school here last year, and was a member of the Junior class. Harrell was very talented musically, possessing a wonderful tenor voice. He and his banjo, on which he was an artist, will be remembered as the life of many a high school party. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce band and of the Boaz Orchestra. He was popular and made a great many friends while here, and everyone loved him for his good nature and sweet disposition. The following was taken from the Shawnee (Oklahoma) News: Funeral services for Harrell Meeker, seventeen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Meeker of Hastings, Okla., and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Corn, of North Broadway, who died early Thursday morning, a victim of typhoid fever, were held Friday afternoon at the First Baptist church. A sermon on Christian Faith filled with words of hope and comfort was preached by Dr. J. W. Jent, Dr. J. B. Lawrence reading the Scripture and offering prayer. The lad was a great lover of music, having marked talent and ability, and the musical service was especially impressive and beautiful. The casket was covered and banked with a wealth of exquisite floral pieces, which mark the mound at Fairview where burial was made. The pall bearers, all young men about the age of the lad whose promising young life came to such an untimely end were, John J. Evans, John C. Sehestedt, Oral Sanders, W. B. Eley, Colonel La Munyon and Lilburn Burrows. Among the out of town relatives here for the funeral were Mrs. Myron Keator and Mrs. Emmett Corn, sister and sister-in-law of Mrs. Meeker; Emmett, Jr., Edward and Elizabeth Corn, children of Mrs. Corn; another sister, Mrs. John Patrick of Crescent, Okla.; Mr. Meeker's father and sister, Mr. T. J. Meeker, and Miss Ada Meeker, and brothers, Grover Meeker and Carl Meeker, and daughter, Gertrude Meeker, all of Edmond, Okla. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
