BOOTH (26 May 1922, Elk City Southwest Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): J. B. MERRILL DEAD Word was received by the friends of a former resident of this city, J. Booth Merrill, announcing his death at the home of his mother at Paris, Texas, last Wednesday. Mr. Merrill had been failing since last winter when he had the flu and pneumonia. He was a resident of Oklahoma City, and only five years ago he made his home in Elk City, practicing law. It had been but thirty days since his father died, and he was at his mother's home at the time of his death. Booth Merrill was a single man, about fifty years of age. His acquaintance in Oklahoma and Texas was extensive and many friends mourn his death. (1 Jun 1922, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): A telephone message to J. P. Thurmond from Oklahoma City this morning told of the death of Booth Merrill at Paris, Texas, at 9:30 this morning. About three months ago Booth had the flu, which affected his lungs and he had not entirely recovered, but he seemed to be improving until Tuesday, when he had a relapse and continued to grow worse until his death this morning. W. Booth Merrill was formerly a resident of Elk City and was one of the able lawyers in this part of the state. From here he went to Oklahoma City and later to Ledonia, Texas, which was his home at the time of his death. While here he made many friends who regret to learn of his untimely death.
