(1 May 1924, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): JASPER MILLER DEAD We stated last week that Jasper Miller was taken to his old home near Grimes. His friends were hoping that the change would benefit him, and for several days he seemed much better and enjoyed meeting his friends but he became weaker and passed peacefully away on Monday, aged 63 (sic) years, 9 months 11 days. He had often expressed a wish that he could go, as he was such a great sufferer and death had no terrors for him. Before Easter said he would be so glad if he could go on Easter day to be with his loved daughter, Laura, who passed away on that day a few years ago. He would take nothing to alleviate his sufferings, his mind was clear and he was conscious until a few hours of his death. Jasper Miller was born July 18th, 1861, at Enfield, White County, Ill. At this place he grew to manhood. On September 5th, 1882 he was united in holy bonds of matrimony to Martha J. Jones. To this union were born six children, Laura, Rufus, Henry, Esther, Walter and Albert. Two of this number preceded the father, Laura Whitledge, passing away at the age of thirty-three and Rufus at the age of seven. Mr. Miller and family came to Oklahoma in October 1906, and had since made his home here, with exception of three years spent in Arkansas. He was taken with stomach trouble two years ago. He was very patient during his suffering. All was done for him that loving hands could do. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1888 and has ever since that lived a christian. He was superintendent of the Rosehill Sunday School for some time. The funeral was held at the home on Tuesday afternoon and interment was made in Rosehill cemetery (Roger Mills County) which is located on the corner of his farm. A very large crowd of neighbors and friends attended the funeral services, showing the high esteem in which he was held. The deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones in their sorrow.
