(12 Oct 1904, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Wednesday evening Sept. 21 as the sun had set the death angel descended and summoned Mrs. E. J. Minnis home. Her sickness was not long and trying, as some, only being sick a few hours. She lived a useful life up until death claimed her. Her last hours were as a burden; yet she never complained, and displayed remarkable patience in the trying moments. Mrs. Minnis was a devoted and kind hearted woman, and no one stood higher in the estimation of the whole community. To her husband she was a loving and devoted wife; to her children she was a mother who loved them with a mother's love; and to her neighbors she was always upright. Indeed her life was as beautiful as the rays of sunlight which brighten and cheer. Her character was as pure and spotless as a character can be made. In all walks of life, in all deeds and in her conversation she was the same, without fault and due consideration for others. In view of all her many noble traits is it not perfectly natural, that when her eyes were closed in death's silent sleep, we are grieved and sadness rent our hearts. Does it not follow that the relatives should be bowed down with a sorrow that cannot be portrayed with tongue or pen, as they look at mother in her last sleep, and see her labors are over and the trials past? Mrs. Minnis served the Lord faithfully, and He has prepared for her a home in that great place not made with hands eternally in the heavens. The body was taken back to Missouri where the funeral services were conducted by Brother Owens at Antioch church, and the remains laid away in the Antioch cemetery, Carroll county, Missouri. Mrs. Minnis was 68 years, 6 months and 24 days old at the time of death, and was the mother of eleven children. Five of whom have gone to the spirit world, the others remain to mourn her departure with their aged father. May we all so live that we will meet her in glory is our earnest prayer. A. Friend. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
