(3 Sep 1925, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Wife of Former Sayre Editor Succumbs to Asthmatic Affliction. Mrs. Dick Mitchell died at Clinton, Oklahoma, Wednesday night September 2nd, after having been a sufferer for many years with an asthmatic affliction. For the past year or more the family have resided at Sayre, where Mr. Mitchell edited the Sayre Journal. A few weeks ago the paper was sold and while we could not get details it is supposed they were visiting at the home of Mr. Mitchell's brother at Clinton. Mrs. Mitchell was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Repass, old and respected residents of Grimes, Mr. Repass having been postmaster at Grimes. She is also a sister of Mrs. Forrest Gowdy of this city. The members of the newspaper fraternity as well as the many friends of the family will extend to Mr. Mitchell and the little children tenderest sympathy. (10 Sep 1925, Sayre Journal, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK) Mrs. R. A. Mitchell, wife of the former editor of the Journal, died at their home in Clinton Thursday eve. at 11:30, after an illness extending over a period of months. Mrs. Mitchell was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Repass, who live at Grimes, and was forty years of age at the time of her death. She was the mother of four children, Roger Mills, Iona, Robert and Baby Mildren Ethel who died about four years ago. Both the Mitchell and Repass families are well and favorably known throughout this county and it is with regret we were informed of her death. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Clinton, Rev. W. S. Deatherage of this city conducting the services. R. A. (Dick) Mitchell edited and published the Journal for the past two years, selling to the present owners, the first of August. Their many friends here join with them in their sorrow. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
