The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Moad, who formerly lived near Carpenter, will feel sad to hear of the death of their eldest son. An obituary was handed us by one of their old neighbors who was present at the funeral at their present home in Clinton. Bertie Alfred Moad, son of Chas. and Lula Moad, was born December 24, 1899, departed this life January 2, 1922, age 22 years and 9 days. Bertie was a noble christian, being a member of the Church of God. He was married July 29, 1917 to Miss Blanche Marie Young, a lovable young lady who was also a christian and a devoted companion. To them was born one son who died in infancy. The deceased leaves a father, mother, five brothers and three sisters, and his wife to mourn his departure. Brother W. M. Cochran of Elk City conducted the funeral services at the Church of God at Clinton amid a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. Colonel Joseph A. Moad and family, also Will Moad, brothers of Chas. Moad, were present. Many beautiful flowers were in evidence, one large bouquet sent from the church at Oklahoma City where the young couple formerly resided. Also many flowers from Clinton and nearby places. That with the large company of friends showed the high esteem in which the family was held. As the body was brought into the church the organist played "Nearer My God To Thee," followed by the congregation in song. Brother Cochran then read the first three verses of the fourteenth chapter of St. John. Prayer was led by Brother E. Morgan. Brother Cochran spoke many words of consolation to the bereaved. He especially commented on the departed being prepared for the judgment. Brother S. M. Rich spoke again at the Parkersburg cemetery (Custer County) where the remains were laid to rest. The writer can only add, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. - A Friend. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
