Floyd Alexander Montgomery, son of C. H. and Hattie Montgomery, was born June 7th, 1901, and died December 20th, 1916, aged 15 years, 6 months and 13 days. He is survived by his father and one full sister, Edith Montgomery, his second mother, Mrs. Mattie Montgomery and four half brothers, Charles, John, Robert and James Montgomery. His mother and two brothers preceeded him to the Glory Land. In habits he was obedient, studious, industrious, ambitious and saving, kind hearted to all and socially inclined. He was very much devoted to his father and his father to him. They were companions and comrades. After his operation for appendicitis he several times expressed regret that he would not be able to accompany his father to the school that he was teaching and where Floyd attended. So many good talks they had together during these drives and how they had planned for the future. It will be a lonely journey now for the father who loved his boy so tenderly. Floyd had such a good disposition, his boyhood friends said they never had occasion to get angry with him, yet he was jolly and they always had happy times together. He never caused his parents any anxiety and never to be corrected. Neighbor men and women loved him as their own and were always glad to have him in their home. He was fond of music and manifested a decided gift in that direction. His favorite songs which he often sang himself were: "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Shall We Gather at the River!" Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon, with Rev. Stogner, officiating. Lovely flowers were on the white casket and friends came from a distance to show their love and respect. Rev. Stogner's address was so appropriate. He told of what the world had missed in the death of one so young who had promised so much, yet the matter of years were not essential, that life is finished, which knows the love of God. The body was laid to rest in Fairlawn Cemetery. Great sympathy is expressed to the bereaved ones. All who have held him dear have the rich comfort of his beautiful and inspiring memory. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
