Mrs. E. S. Morgan died yesterday morning, August 29. Her death was not a surprise to her friends. She had been, for many months, suffering from a lingering disease which wasted the energy and life of one of the most intelligent and active women of our town. Until her failing health compelled her to desist from activity, she was a correspondent for this paper. Her articles always breathed a good spirit and were spicy and bright. She will be much missed by her many friends and neighbors. (14 Sep 1905, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Lucy Belle Morgan was born March 18, 1873, in Clark county, Iowa, and died Aug. 29, 1905, at her home in Elk City, Okla. She leaves a husband and two little girls to mourn the loss of a wife and mother. A very touching discourse was presented by Rev. Crutchfield, beautiful songs were sung. Then came the last fond look at wife, mother, sister, after which her remains were interred in the Elk City cemetery. Although she suffered long and much her death was peaceful, she was ready and anxious to go and meet her Savior and clasp glad hands united with loved ones in that happy land where sin is unknown and sorrow never comes. While gazing on the calm, peaceful expression of the dear worn face, after Heaven had claimed the soul, we felt like exclaiming, "Oh grave where is thy victory, o death where is thy sting." What a comfort to the bereft husband and sorrowing children to know that mother has only gone home to rest and is waiting for them. Oh what a happy meeting to look forward to, sorrow no more parting there, peace and joy. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
