All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ MURPHY, BRIDGET (13 May, 1926, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Bridget Murphy was born in Springfield, Ill., August 1, 1854. The body was brought to Elk City and services held at the Catholic church, on Tuesday, April 27th, where a large crowd gathered to pay their last respects to a dear mother, sister and friend. Rev. Father Geereart had charge of the funeral services. Many beautiful flowers covered the casket, floral offerings being sent from the Royal Neighbors of Elk City and from several friends at Cheyenne and Elk City. Interment was made in Catholic cemetery in East Fairlawn. When she was about eighteen years of age she married James Murphy. Her maiden name was also Murphy, but they were not related. He died forty-one years ago. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Murphy, one daughter and five sons, namely, Mrs. Kate McVeigh, of Elk City; Edward, who died twenty-three years ago; James Murphy of Pueblo, Colo.; Thomas, who died three years ago; Will Murphy of Roll, Okla.; Charlie Murphy of Yoder, Colo. Mrs. Murphy died at the home of her son, Will Murphy, at Roll (Roger Mills County), after suffering from a stroke of paralysis. Her daughter, Mrs. Kate McVeigh of this city, and son Charlie of Yoder, Colo., were at the brothers home when their mother passed away. James Murphy of Pueblo, Colo., was unable to be present. Besides her children she is survived by the following sisters and brothers: Pat Murphy, Roll, Okla.; Will Murphy, Baxter Springs, Kansas; Thomas Murphy, Springfield, Ill.; Mike Murphy, Baxter Springs, Kan.; Henry Murphy, Vinita, Okla.; Mrs. H. L. Herbert, Commerce, Okla.; and Miss Josie Murphy of Baxter Springs, Kan. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Wm. Murphy and family and Pat Murphy of Crawford, Mrs. Minnie Slief, Mrs. F. A. Beavins, Miss Esta Beavins, Mrs. Louis Beavins, Mr. and Mrs. Will Pankey of Cheyenne, Mr. and Mrs. Schurtzer and son, Mr. and Mrs. Emory Springer, John Reynolds and daughter, Capitola, Mrs. Bright, Jim Reed, Hagen Beavens, R. and J. Gathen of Roll, Chas. Murphy of Yoder, Colo., William and Josie Murphy of Baxter Springs, Kans., Mrs. H. L.
