(6 Mar 1924, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF A. M. NEECE While in Clinton, Okla., last Wednesday on a business trip, A. M. Neece was seen to fall on the street. On being taken to home of his son he suffered intensely and was unconscious most of the time until Sunday morning when he seemed so much better, regaining consciousness and speaking to his children, among other things repeating many verses of scriptures. Believing he was improving, the daughter, Mrs. Solomon, returned to Elk City to be with her mother, who is crippled and an invalid, and who had been unable to go to her husband's bedside. While news of her husband seemed encouraging, she became very restless about six o'clock in the evening and told the family she felt that something was wrong. A short time later news came over the telephone that her husband had passed away, he had just gone to sleep, and died so peacefully and without a struggle. The news almost overcame the frail and aged wife. The body was brought to Elk City Monday and funeral services held at 3 o'clock in the Church of God where a large crowd of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respects to this beloved husband, father and friend. The pall bearers were Messrs. Guy Littrell, John Darendinger, J. W. Madden, Orla McClain, Neal Cross and Lonnie Merritt. Lovely flowers covered the casket. The choir sang several beautiful selections. Rev. C. S. Moad, of Clinton, who made an excellent address was in charge of services, being assisted by Rev. Stanka, who led in prayer. The interment was made in Fairlawn cemetery. Andrew M. Neece was born January 30th, 1856, in Union Co., Georgia, and departed this life March 2nd, 1924, aged 68 years, 1 month and 2 days. At the age of 21 he was united in marriage to Miss Launa Rogers. To this union nine children were born all of whom are still living. They are Mrs. W. L. Culp, Port, Okla.; Mrs. H. C. Rice and J. M. Neece of Elk City; Mrs. P. H. Lee, Foss, Okla.; Homer W. Neece, McAlister, Okla.; Walter A. Neece of Sandiago (sic), Calif.; R. L. Neece and Mrs. G. E. Solomon of Elk City. Besides the wife and children there are forty grand children, nine great grand children with a host of friends left to mourn his loss. Mr. Neece was converted at the time he attained his majority and joined the Methodist Church and lived in that faith for twenty-two years, when he was sanctified and became a minister of the Church of God, laboring faithfully with them until about five years ago when his voice failed and it became necessary for him to retire from the ministry. But he was ever ready to speak a work of the Master and Tuesday evening of last week gave a bright testimony at the cottage meeting which he attended and enjoyed so much. He was a good man, a devoted husband, loving father and a friend to all. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
