(3 Jul 1924, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Miss Myrtle Newby Myrtle Newby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Newby, was born in Wichita County, Texas, April 21, 1894, and died in Albuquerque, New Mexico, June 23, aged 30 years, 2 months and 2 days. Her mother died when she was eight months old and her father moved to Pauls Valley. About twenty-three years ago with her parents, she moved to Sandstone northwest of Elk City. In 1910 they moved to Wichita Falls later to Sentinel. Her father died in 1915 since which time she has been traveling considerable, with her sister who had not been well. Last September just after starting out with her sister, she herself became ill, suffering from tuberculosis and several places were visited to find relief, and a couple of weeks before she passed away she was taken to the St. Joseph's Sanitarium at Albuquerque. Everything possible was done for her. She was always so cheerful that her own loved ones could scarcely realize that she was so near death. Several times she made beautiful prayers and just a few hours before passing away she led in prayer. Though she was anxious to get well she said she was ready to go, to meet the loved ones gone before. Death had no terrors for her for she had given her heart to the Master when a young girl, joining the Baptist church, and ever lived a consecrated and happy christian life. She was loved by all who knew her for she had one of the sweetest dispositions, and so thoughtful of others, and all will miss her genial smiles, loving hand clasp, and ever ready word of cheer. Her path is marked with deeds of kindness and her always ready consideration of others was her happiest moments. Her body was prepared for burial in a beautiful manner and she appeared as if she was only asleep. En route to Wichita Falls where she was interred by the side of her parents, the body lie in state at Amarillo, where numerous friends called to lay their floral tributes and bid goodby to the form they loved so well. The funeral services were conducted in Baptist Church of Wichita Falls conducted by Rev. Powers. Among the beautiful floral offerings was one from the City National Bank of Wichita Falls of which she was a stock holder. She leaves two sisters and a brother, Mrs. J. C. Hart, Elk City; Miss Laura Newby, Sentinel and R. E. Newby, of Port, Okla., besides many relatives to mourn their loss. The brother and sisters were with her during the last weeks of her illness.
