All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ NICHOLS, FRED ELWIN (21 Dec 1916, Thursday, Southwest News & Leader, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Fred E. Nichols, for a number of years a resident of Elk City, died on Thursday night at his home in the northwest portion of the city after an illness lasting little more than a week, and was buried in Fairlawn cemetery Friday afternoon. Deceased was forty-three years, and eleven months old, and is survived by his widow and a number of relatives in this section including his father and two brothers in this city. Until the illness, which resulted in his death, Mr. Nichols had been a picture of health and announcement of his death came as a surprise to his many friends. For a number of years Mr. Nichols was postmaster here and since leaving the post office has been engaged in the drug business, being the manager and one of the owners of the Palace Drug Store. He was a man of many splendid traits, and had many close friends, as those who knew him best admired him most. He was a member of the local lodge of Elks, and they assisted in the funeral service, conducting the usual service. Dr. J. C. Boyce of the Presbyterian church was in charge of the services. Mr. Nichols was a native of Missouri, being born in Centralia, January 6, 1873. Mr. Nichols was a good citizen and will be greatly missed.
