(25 Mar 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): RITES READ FOR MRS. NICHOLS Old Resident Succumbs After Long Illness; Lived Here 32 Years. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Nichols, old time resident in this section, wife of J. L. Nichols, were held this afternoon at 3:30 in the Nichols home on West Fifth street. Rev. Walter Crane, pastor of the Baptist church at Ural, and Rev. J. D. Conley, presided. Mrs. Nichols died Monday afternoon at her home. Her health had been failing since December, and she suffered a decided change about three weeks ago. Mrs. Nichols is well known in this community, having lived here for the past 32 years. She came to Oklahoma in 1898 with her family and homesteaded on land 14 miles south of the city where they lived for 22 years, moving to Elk City 12 years ago. She was converted to the Missionary Baptist faith when a young lady and her membership was in the Ural church at the time of her death. Mrs. Nichols was born near Nashville, Tennessee, April 11, 1863, where she lived until she was married to J. L. Nichols. The couple moved to Texas where they lived for a few years before coming to Oklahoma. Immediate members of the family surviving are her husband, J. L. Nichols, and six children. Two daughters are Mrs. C. C. Williams and Mrs. H. L. Burnham of Detroit, Michigan, and four sons, are Edd Nichols, B. M. Nichols and Vertie Nichols of this city, and Will Nichols of Oklahoma City. Interment was made in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
