Noel passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. C. Jones, early last Wednesday morning, after an illness of several weeks. He was born in Jackson, Tennessee in 1862, and died in Elk City May 30, 1928. He moved to Texas in 1881 and two years later on March 15, was married to Miss Mary Champ. His wife died at Ennis, Texas, some seventeen years ago. To this union were born seven children, five girls and two boys, two of the children dying in infancy, another daughter dying here fourteen years ago. Mr. Noel moved to Elk City and settled on a farm south of town following the death of his wife, later moving to town where he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. W. C. Jones, until the time of his death. He united with the Baptist church more than forty years ago and has been a faithful member of this body during his life time. He leaves four children. Mrs. H. C. Noel, of Rice, Texas, J. V. Noel of Rankin; Mrs. Jas. M. Gilpin, of Groesbeck and Mrs. W. C. Jones of this city. Ten grandchildren and one brother, A. L. Noel of Ennis, Texas, are left to mourn his loss. The following clipping was taken from the Ennis Weekly Local, regarding his death. "Word was received of the death of J. A. Noel which occurred this morning at 4:45 o'clock at the home of his daughter in Elk City, Oklahoma. Mr. Noel was seventy-five years old and made his home in Ennis for many years. He had been in a serious condition for several weeks. His daughter, Mrs. James Gilpin, of Groesbeck passed through Ennis enroute to his bedside some time ago. "Mr. Noel, with other members of the Noel family, came from Jackson, Tennessee, to Ennis in 1881, some forty-seven years ago. For the past seventeen years he has lived in Elk City. His wife died in 1910, and is buried in the cemetery at Crisp. "Funeral services for Mr. Noel will be held in Elk City Thursday, where he will be buried. A. L. Noel is his brother and last surviving member of the Noel family, including eleven brothers and sisters." Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church, Thursday afternoon with Rev. Shirley in charge. Old friends of Mr. Noel made up the honorary pall bearers with Horace Childress, Henry Tyler, Russell Cunningham, Curtis Cunningham, Raymond Wheeler and Walter Thomas carrying the casket.
