Nov 1987) Funeral services for Mrs. Jack (Joe) Nunley will be held Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Glenwood Buzbee and Rev. Geary Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery with Martin's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Nunley was born on her family's claim southwest of Elk City in the Merritt community on May 28, 1901, and died at the Community Hospital Saturday. Daughter of A. R. and Mertie Harris, Mrs. Nunley attended public school in Sayre, graduating from Sayre High School in 1917. She attended college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and the University of Oklahoma in Norman. She was married to Jack Nunley in Norman on July 2, 1922, and they lived in Sayre where she taught in the Sayre Public Schools. The Nunleys moved to Elk City in 1928 to work full-time in their retail grocery business until their retirement in 1972. Mrs. Nunley was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, participating in the Choral Choir, Women's Organization, B. W. Circle, and many other church organizations and activities. She was presented with an honorary membership by the Presbyterian Women's Organization in 1968. She was also active in Rotary Anns, and was a lifetime member of the Western Oklahoma Historical Society. Mrs. Nunley was preceded in death by both her parents and her beloved stepmother, Mrs. Hattie Harris, also two sisters and one brother. She is survived by her husband, Jack, of the home; one brother Rufus Harris and his wife, Dorothy of Odessa, Tex.; a sister-in-law Lorene Harris of Hollis; and several nieces and nephews.
