JAMES (19 Jun 1924, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. James O'Donnell Died May 24, 1924, at home of her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Welsh, Odell, Ill. Funeral was held on Thursday, May 29, from St. Paul Catholic Church. Services were conducted by Rev. Father J. P. Barry, pastor. The deceased was born Dec. 25, 1849 at Colnmel, County Waterford, Ireland, being the daughter of Catherine Keefe and James Downey. She spent her early girlhood in that country. At the age of twenty-three years she was united in marriage to James O'Donnell. To this union was born seventeen children: P. O'Donnell and Mrs. C. Welsh of Odell; John of Collis, Minn.; James and Michael of Elk City, Oklahoma; William, Richard and Mrs. Kobler of Chicago; Lorrance of Niles, Mich.; Mrs. Chas. Premersdorfer of Bloomington; Mrs. L. R. Jalbert of Arcadia, California; Miss Margaret O'Donnell of Ransom, Ill.; Sister Loretto, B. S., known as Mary O'Donnell of Hamilton, Ohio; four children preceded her in death - Ellen, Edward, Ilane and Francis. Her husband died in 1916. She has living, two brothers and four sisters, Patrick Downey of South Dakota, and William Downey of Pontiac, Ill.; Mrs. Cornelius Turner of Odell; Mrs. A. Murphy, Central City, Ky.; Mrs. John Hornbaker of Pontiac, Ill.; Mrs. James Fitzjearls, Pontiac, Ill.; and two brothers dead, James and John, and one sister, Ellen. Mrs. O'Donnell came to Odell with her husband and two sons, Patrick and John, Nov. 1, 1874, and had spent the greater part of her life in this vicinity. She was the grandmother of twenty-nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Daniel Winke and son, Daniel, Miss Marguerite Kane of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mr. J. Welsh, of Williamsfield, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. John Riordan and family of Joilet, Mrs. Marguerite Tannor and family, Miss Nellie and Joe, Daniel and Jerry Flynn, Wm. Tague, John Downey, all of Chicago; Michael Flynn, Streator, Rev. Father Kenrick, Ransom, Ill., Mrs. Mary Judge and family, Miss Sarah Cassidy, Miss Marguerite Powers, Mrs. Delanty, Mrs. James Stacks, Wm. Kripple, Mrs. A. Campbell, Mrs. Geo. Wolf, Ed. Downey and family, John Hornbaker and family, Wm. Hornbaker and wife. James Fitzjearls and wife, all of Pontiac. Strengthened by the life-giving Sacraments of her Church, surrounded by the members of her family, with a prayer on her dying lips, the soul of Mrs. O'Donnell took its flight back to the God from whence it came on the evening of May 24th. May the coveted rest and joy be hers today, and having imitated her virtues, may her peaceful death be ours. - Odell, (Ill.)
