(13 Dec 1911, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Lydia Peck was born at Johnston, New York, September 20, 1831. She married Charles J. Peck of Gloversville, New York, June 27, 1866. They came to Morris County, Kansas, in the winter of 1871, to make a home in the then new west. To this union there was born one child, Mrs. A. L. Heibert. Mrs. Peck was first a member of the Lutheran church but when she came to Kansas there was no Lutheran church near her and she united with the Presbyterian church. She came to Oklahoma with her daughter in 1908 and settled about a mile and a half north of Elk City, where she died on December 5, 1911, and was laid to rest in Elk City cemetery. She was a loyal member of the church and always attended until old age and ill health came upon her as she was eighty years of age when she died. At one time she was superintendent of two Sunday schools at the same time; one in the forenoon and the other in the afternoon, and also President of the Christian Endeavor. A large crowd of friends gathered for the funeral services which were held in the home by her pastor, Rev. B. G. Taylor on the afternoon of Dec. 6, 1911. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
