All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ PEPPER, MARTHA ANN PEPPER, ROBERT SAMUEL (24 Jan 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Sunday, January 20, the last tributes of respect were paid to Robert Samuel Pepper and his wife Ann Bush Pepper, who followed him in death one day after his passing. Friends, relatives and acquaintances gathered at the First Baptist church Sunday afternoon when the funeral rites were held for this couple, who were honored and esteemed by a host of people. Rev. H. W. Shirley officiated at the services and Rev. Carl V. Covey assisted. Interment was made at Fairlawn Cemetery. Robert Samuel Pepper was born July 15, 1857, in Livingston county, Mo., and died in Elk City, January 15, 1929, at the age of 71 years and six months. Martha Ann Bush-Pepper was born April 9, 1856, in Brown county, Ill., and died at Elk City, January 16, 1929, at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 7 days. This couple were united in marriage March 2, 1881, in Linn county, Mo., and the union lasted 47 years, 10 months and 15 days. Mr. Pepper united with the Methodist church early in life and lived a consistent Christian life. Mrs. Pepper affiliated herself with the church in her youth and developed a Christian character that was admired by all who came in contact with it for its beauty and sincerity. The cardinal characteristics of her life were her patience, unselfishness, service and appreciation. For the last 28 years ill health had caused Mrs. Pepper a great amount of suffering which she bore with great fortitude. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Pepper were Claudie Leona, who died at the age of nine; Mrs. Minnie Miller, Mrs. Lillie Martin, Mrs. Vernie Leeper and Mrs. Francis Leeper of Elk City. J. F. Reed and E. L. Moore of Elk City are brothers of Mr. Pepper. Mrs. Pepper is survived by two brothers and three sisters of Missouri. The couple came to Elk City in 1901 and lived around this vicinity for 28 years.
