(15 Apr 1926, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): N. Lamb and two sons, from Texas were called here by the serious illness and death of his mother, Grandma Pettus, last week. They are visiting with relatives here for a few days. We are sorry to chronicle the passing away of Grandma Pettus who has lived here for the last twenty-five years, who was 88 years old. She leaves one son, N. Lamb of Texas, two daughters, Mrs. McKey of near Berlin and Mrs. W. T. Lewis of Grandview, grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of friends to grieve. She died April 8. Funeral was held at Bella Vista, preached by Dr. Jester. She was laid away in Grandview cemetery amid beautiful flowers. Relatives from Texas, relatives and friends from near Berlin, Elk City, Bella Vista and Grandview attended the funeral Sunday. She was watching, waiting and ready to go. Is now happy in Heaven we know. Obituary. Martha Keith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Keith was born December 22nd, 1837, in Polk County, Arkansas. She was married to H. A. Lamb when a young girl. Seven children were born to this union, three of whom are living: Mrs. W. T. Lewis, Elk City; Mrs. S. C. McKee of Berlin, Okla.; and N. O. Lamb of Buffalo Springs, Texas. When youngest child was about two years old the father died. She remained a widow for six years and married Eli Martin, who died in the early days of Oklahoma. Two years later she was married to W. R. Pettus. He passed away about two years ago. Mrs. Pettus died at the home of her grand daughter, Mrs. Lula Halterman on Thursday, April 8th, 1926, aged 88 years, 4 months and 14 days. Funeral services were held on Sunday and interment made in Grandview cemetery. A large number attended the services showing the great love they had for grandma. While quite young she was converted and joined the Methodist church and was ever a faithful member and consecrated christian. She was unassuming in her manners and to know her was to love her and those who knew her best were those who appreciated her pure and quiet life the most. She was a good wife and mother, friend and neighbor. She helped raise several step children and grandchildren who ever found one interested in their welfare. She was ready to go and among the last things she said was "Come on friends" urging all to meet her in heaven. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
