W. Poarch. (9 May 1930, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. Thomas Walker Poarch was born July 4, 1866 in Marshel (sic) County, Tennessee. He moved to Missouri with his family at the age of 7. In 1877 they moved to Texas where they made their home. He was married to Marie Catherine Simmons June 12, 1886, at VanAlstyne, Texas, and to this union nine children were born. All the children are living except one son who passed away September 9, 1914. Mr. Poarch's wife preceded him less than two years. ago. Mr. Poarch was converted and joined the Baptist church at the age of 24 and lived a consecrated christian life till his death. He moved near Carter more than thirty years ago and was one of the charter members of the Baptist church of Carter. He was well known over all Beckham County and loved by all who knew him. His many friends and relatives were shocked and grieved to learn of his sudden death early Tuesday morning, May 6, 1930. He was sitting before the fire apparently feeling well when he was suddenly attacked with heart failure. By the time his daughter reached him he was dead. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Russell of the Baptist church assisted by Rev. C. C. Williamson of the Methodist church. All of the children except the oldest daughter, Mrs. H. C. Poarch Was Pioneer Settler Of This County; Died At His Home In Carter. Funeral services were held for T. W. Poarch, pioneer settler of Beckham county, Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Baptist church in Carter. Poarch died suddenly Tuesday morning at his home in Carter. At the time of his death he was justice of the peace of the Carter precinct. He was well known all over Beckham county. He settled here in the early days where he was interested in the coal business for many years. In 1917 he sold his business and moved to Carter where he has made his home ever since. Interment will be in the Carter cemetery.
